Education
There are a total of 21 general educational schools
in the Valkivsky Raion.
They educate and train 4,469 school children with an average class
size of 19 pupils.
There are 20 preschool educational institutions with 689 children
in the Raion.
Extracurricular education in the Raion is based on three educational
institutions:
House of Creative Work for Children and Youth; Raion Tourism, Local
History, and Excursion Center for Schoolchildren; and Sports School
for Children and Youth. These institutions have 111 study and hobby
groups in the following areas: arts, esthetics, science and technology,
environment and nature, tourism and local history, and sports. The
total of 1966 school-age children participate in extra-curricular
activities or 44% of the total schoolchildren.
The quality and effectiveness of the training and educational process
are assured by the skilled teaching staff who are undertaking focused
efforts to implement the key objectives of the State educational
policy, ensuring the appropriate level of education, and providing
the conditions for implementing the didactic and educational process.
The educational institutions employ 420 teachers, 82 of whom have
the highest qualifications category and 112 have category 1. The
honorable title of "Distinguished Teacher of Ukraine"
has been awarded to two teachers - N.I. Ovcharenko, teacher of Ukrainian
language and literature of the Kovyahy settlement School, and N.V.
Babicheva, teacher of mathematics of the Valky School. The title
of Methodologist-Teacher was granted to nine teachers, that of Senior
Teacher to 39 educators.
The educators of the Raion make a valuable contribution to the treasure
trove of innovations of region's pedagogical expertise. The methodology
products presented at the Oblast fair have been awarded diplomas.
These include the "The Literary Valky Country" collection,
handbook "Writers of the Kharkiv Region", methodological
recommendations "Aspects of Ecological Education".
There are a lot of talented and gifted pupils and children's groups
among the Raion schoolchildren, who are winners of various international
dance competitions, national scientific, literary, tourist and local
history, and sports competitions.
A school in the village Novy Merchyk is a branch of the Physical
Geography and Cartography Chair of the Kharkiv Karazin National
University. It is also a Raion base for the local chapter of the
Small Academy of Sciences. The alumni of this school are repeated
winners of regional and national contests in geography and win certificates
of merit for their papers presented to the Small Academy of Sciences.
Two new schools, one in the city of Valky and the other in the village
Oleksandrivka were commissioned in 2001 and 2002.
